Freebie tricks

Freebie tricks

Viruses
Free software infected with viruses and trojans. You will need a good antivirus and make sure you have always the latest updates. Only download files from respected sources and you should be just fine. You can get some free stuff on our website. We try to test all freebies first.

Server security holes
If you run a website, be aware of any holes that may expose you to hacking. A security hole can make someone else take control of your website and use it for illegal purposes and guess what… you will face the consequences. Avoid as much as possible opensource software, specially if it’s not updated for a long time.

Trial subscriptions
Those are freebies that aren’t really freebies. They usually ask for your financial informations in order to get access to that particular freebie. Open your eyes wide when you enter such informations… every respectable website should have a security certificate on that page. Check it and see if the certificate is genuine. Do not enter paypal details on pages outside www.paypal.com, do not enter moneybookers details on pages outside www.moneybookers.com. Check the domain and if you spot something wrong get out of there and report them.

Shipping and handling
A freebie that require you to pay for shipping and handling isn’t really free anymore, is it? That don’t mean is not worth it… I would pay shipping and handling for a free plasma TV. But this can also be a trick… watch the domains that ask for credit card details the same way as for trial subscriptions. If anything looks suspicious, do not enter any financial details.

Email
When you try to access freebie directories, you still have to register and provide them with your email address. Look for privacy policy… some websites will sign you up for tones of spam newsletter and some will even sell your email address. An active email address is worth from 0,05$ up to 5$ on the black market. You all know what i mean… pharma stores that spawn everywhere, dating websites that send you 5-6 emails a day and so on.

The bottom line is that you are your best antivirus. Just keep your eyes open and don’t click any link that pops in front of your eyes. Read, think and analyze everything.

Keep yourself safe online Today and everyday!

Domain Name Trademarks

Domain Name Trademarks

As your Internet business grows, the value of your domain name increases. The issue of a domain name trademark should move to the top of your list. You need to guard against unscrupulous competitors that may try to incorporate your domain name in their meta tags to obtain search engine rankings under your name. If you have a domain name trademark, you can go after these individuals and compel the search engines to remove their listings.

What Is A Trademark?
A trademark is a distinctive item that is used to identify a logo, product, device, package or service. The trademark identifies the item as being provided by a particular firm. To protect these items you can obtain a mark from the patent and trademark office that prohibits others from trying to gain economic advantage from your mark.
Domain Name
The patent and trademark office views domain names in a unique way. The office views the “http://www” element as a part of the file transfer process, not your domain name. The “.com”, “.net”, etc., designations are considered top-level domain identifiers and are also disregarded for the purpose of a domain name trademark. For example, our domain name is http://www.sandiegobusinesslawfirm.com. If we submitted the domain name for registration, only the “sandiegobusinesslawfirm” portion would be considered for a mark.
Locators Cannot Be Registered
A domain name is a locator for file pages. When you type in your domain name, a server locates and displays files. If a domain is used solely for this purpose, it will not be granted a mark. Instead, the domain name must be incorporated into the site. For instance, Amazon is recognized as an online bookstore and the site actually has the word “Amazon” on every page. Since “Amazon.com” is more than a locator, Amazon can apply for and receive a trademark. If Amazon used the domain name, bookstore.com, the company would be able to register “Amazon”, but not “bookstore.”
Generic and Descriptive Terms
Domain names that are generic or descriptive in nature cannot be registered because they fail to designate a distinctive product or service. For example, “sandiegobusinesslawfirm” is comprised of generic terms and describes who and where we are, to wit, a San Diego business law firm. This domain name cannot be trademarked. The same result would occur with bank.com, book.com, advice.com, etc.
You may be thinking, “What about ‘Coke?’ “Coke” is a trademarked term because it is a distinctive term for a soft drink product. It just so happens that a brilliant marketing plan has convinced most people to refer to soft drinks as “cokes”, even if they actually prefer another brand!
Trademarks are an important factor in protecting your Internet business. Armed with a trademark, you can keep competitors from pulling traffic off the search engines when people search for your site. Success and Confidence

Work and Preparation Equals Success

You have decided to start your own business on the internet. The first question is what do I do? What kind of service do I offer or what product do I sell.
What field are you knowledgable in? What do you have to offer others? Am I qualified to help others?
Most everyone has the knowledge and ability to help others. The problem is that most do not have the confidence to share that knowledge. We question ourselves and the abilities that we possess.
You have decided to start your own business on the internet. The first question is what do I do? What kind of service do I offer or what product do I sell.
What field are you knowledgable in? What do you have to offer others? Am I qualified to help others?  Of course YOU ARE!
Most everyone has the knowledge and ability to help others. The problem is that most do not have the confidence to share that knowledge. We question ourselves and the abilities that we possess.
Years ago when I was in the United States Army, I learned some valuable lessons about people. The majority of people
followers. There is nothing wrong with this and the world needs followers as well as leaders.
The world also needs leaders and the confidence that goes with that role. To be a successful leader, you must have the confidence in your own abilities. And to be successful in the marketing world, you must be a leader.
You must have the confidence that you can help others and have the ability to convey that confidence to them. You must possess the knowledge to allow you to portray this confidence to your clients as well.
If you cannot convey this confidence to your potential customers, you will have a very difficult time being successful in any type business. People come to you for help, you must project a sense of confidence or you have little chance of attaining that success.
A few years back when I was in the advertising business, a client told me one day that I seemed so confident that the ad campaign I has just written would be a rousing success. He asked me how I could be so confident when we had yet to even test the campaign?
My answer to him applies to almost any task or any field. I told him that I was confident because I had spent many hours studying the market that we were targeting. I had also spent many hours looking at other ads, both successful and unsuccesful. I had then spent a lot of time putting together the campaign and when I finished, I went back and spent even more time ensuring that everything was just right.
The key here was preparation. I was totally prepared and felt like I had exhausted every possible means to ensure that the ad campaign was the best that it could possibly be. How could I not be confident.
It reminds me of school. When I spent the time studying, I always felt confident when test day arrived. The times that I did not spend the time studying, the confidence was just not there, no matter how hard I tried to convince myself.
Back in those days, confidence seemed to come because you were driving the fanciest car on campus and everyone looked up to you. Or you were the captain of the football team or the head cheerleaders. At that point in life, most looked up to you for the wrong reasons. Well, I am here to tell you that those things mean nothing in the today’s world.
You have the ability to start your own business and turn it into a successful venture. What does it take? You are going to have to have the confidence to pass along to others. How do you acquire this confidence? Well, it does not come because you are good looking, popular or inherited a million dollars. It comes from hard work and preparation.
Do you have the ability to make it happen? Of course you do. The question is, are you willing to put forth the time and effort that it takes. Success and Confidence take work and preparation.

Will You Be an Internet Success Story?

The internet has completely changed the business world. It has changed the whole concept of how to be successful in a home business. It has also provided the opportunity for many to give up the 9 to 5 world and seek their dream on the internet. Some have made this transition seem easy and others continue to struggle.

Have you been thinking about making this change?

Do you have what it takes to make this a successful move?

Let’s take a look at a few of the things that ultimately decide who makes the grade and who goes down with the ship.

1. Work at something you enjoy. There is nothing quite like enjoying your job. It puts a whole new perspective on the world. If you like what you do, working becomes a pleasure instead of a chore. Some of you are probably thinking, yeah right, work is not something to enjoy but rather just a pain that we have to endure.

If you decide to work from home, pick out something that you will enjoy. If you don’t enjoy what you are doing, it will become the same pain as the job you have now. You may enjoy it at first, just because you are home or just because it is new. That will wear off and when it does, you had better be doing something that you enjoy or you will be one of the passengers on the sinking ship.

2. You must be disciplined. It is very easy to start wandering when you are working on the net. The internet is full of fun and interesting things and it is very easy to find yourself surfing or looking at something totally unrelated to your work.

An email arrives that looks interesting and you decide to go check it out. Fifteen or twenty minutes later, you all at once realize that you were working.

When I first started working on the internet, I found that it was taking hours to do a forty-five minute job. Use your work time wisely. I have interests that I like to explore but I have learned to do that at other times. When I go to work, I concentrate on working. I have cut my work time down tremendously since I impimented this technique.

3. Don’t expect to be successful overnight. So many people have heard the internet success stories and think wealth will come fast and easy. You are starting a business and building a successful business takes time and effort.

I would not discourage anyone from seeking their dream on the internet. I never enjoyed going to work for someone else every morning. Be realistic when you start out, don’t expect success to just fall in your lap. If you go in with the expectations of making a big income your first few months, you are most likely going to be disappointed. Does not happen!

4. Be prepared for change. The internet is ever changing and to be a successful business person on the net, you have to be willing to change as well.

You will find techniques that worked last week are antique this week. If you want to be successful working on the internet, you must keep up with the times. There is a lot of great information out there and I suggest that you devote some time each week to looking to find these new ideas.

Check out other businesses in your field and see what they are doing. Initiate contact with other business owners in your field. You may not only learn something new but joint ventures are one of the most succesful means of doing business on the net.

The internet is a great place to work. If you make that decision to venture out into cyberspace as a means of earning an income, take some time and find something you like. Create good work habits, don’t have unreasonable expectations and be willing to change.

These things alone are no guarentee you will be a success but it is at least a good road to start down.

I wish you success Cliff Petry
